Yoga Nidra, often called the art of conscious relaxation, is a healing practice which has been used to reduce anxiety, depression, pain, insomnia, and a number of other modern disease states. It is a unique meditation done on the back that helps to quiet the overactive mind and unwind the nervous system. Together with some gentle movement and breathing, we will work to remove the deep rooted tensions and stresses stored in the physical, mental and emotional bodies.
We will focus on balancing the Muladhara Chakra, or root center, the first of the major chakras. This is the energy center that governs the way we function on the physical plane. Muladhara is the foundation of our development (much like the roots of a tree), and provides us with groundedness, or the feeling of being well-established, physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually and even economically. When it is under active, or Tamasic, we feel a sense of disconnection, lack of focus, unhealthy or even unsuccessful. When it is overactive, or Rajasic, we feel stuck, apathetic and unable to make changes. A balanced and harmonious Muladhara Chakra helps us to feel safe, connected, and allows us to move through life smoothly with comfort and ease.
